Trey Mills starts 2023 with four Top-10s at Sunshine Nationals

With the off-season behind him, Trey Mills was back behind the wheel of both his 604 and 602 Late Model at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the Sunshine Nationals.

With 35 602 Late Models at Volusia on Thursday, Trey recorded the 11th-fastest in straight up qualifying, setting him up to start 11th in the 15-lap feature. With $1,000 on the line, Mills made up four positions to finish 7th.

In Friday's 602 competition, Mills started sixth in the 15-lap main event after a sixth-place qualifying effort. With $1,000 on the line, Mills gained four spots and clinched a runner-up finish behind David Showers Jr.

For Thursday's 604 Late Model portion of the evening, Mills started the 20-lap preliminary event from the second row and brought his #14jr machine to a fourth-place finish in the $1,500-to-win feature. Mills trailed Kyle Bronson, Cory Hedgecock, and Jimmy Sharpe Jr. while Joshua Bishop rounded out the Top-5.

On Friday, Trey qualified 18th-quickest in a stout 604 Late Model field and started the 20-lap preliminary feature from the fifth row. Mills rallied in the $1,500 feature and ran as high as third before settling for another fourth-place finish. He finished behind Randy Weaver, Cory Hedgecock, and Demetrios Drellos while Jackson Hise completed the Top-5.

Saturday's finale at Volusia Speedway Park was cancelled due to rain.
